If you are a 3ds Max user you will be happy to hear that the first Extension pack for the 2015 software has just been released and it is filled with new tools that will make your working process ten times easier and better.
Unfortunately though this is only available for you if you have 3ds Max with an Autodesk Subscription, but this can easily be purchased via Adris; so if you are persuaded after I go through the features call us on the number at the bottom of the blog.
Alembic Support – This feature basically allows your software to run faster on your workstation which will make 3ds Max much more manageable to use. Having this means that the memory consumed by the software is used in an efficient way and it doesn't take up unnecessary disk space.
One of the main aspects that most people will be pleased about is that everything within 3ds Max is doubled in speed and you also have the optional ability to load and/or export certain geometric results.
Enhanced ShaderFX – With this extension you will now get better shading options. Additionally, you have the ability to create numerous new things that range from procedural materials, node patters, to maps. You also have better productivity because it is easier and a lot faster to access the shaders you want. This is all made possible with the new node browser, which allows you to search for what you need.
OpenSubdiv Support - With this new feature you can do numerous amazing things that allow for greater productivity. One of the main advantages is that you can visualize a model and you get an even better experience than before because there is no need to render it in order to get an accurate representation.
Something else that you can do is transfer models to other packages that support OpenSubdiv. This could be done before but this time you get a consistent appearance because it using Autodesk FBX asset exchange technology. On top of these two features you can also create complex topology, smooth surface representation and faster in-viewport performance.
If you use Autodesk Maya 2015 then stay tuned until September 10th 2014 because that is when the extension for this will be released.
