Autodesk Inventor HSM as like Inventor gives you the option of creating rectangular or circular patterns of your machined generated toolpath. There are several different pattern types that can be applied in Inventor HSM. Liner pattern, circular pattern, mirror pattern, duplication pattern and component pattern.
Using the patterning in Autodesk Inventor HSM will speed up your programming of the model, it will save you time with no need to repeat toolpath operations. If you use Inventors rectangular and circular pattern you will find that Inventors HSM patterning options are easy to use.
Below is a part that has 2 operations that can be patterned. The machined pocket and the drilling.
To pattern the generated toolpaths, in the cam browser under the setup folder select the 2D pocket and the drill. Right click and select add to new pattern.
In the pattern dialog box change pattern type to duplication pattern, for source select an edge as shown below. Select the targets option and select the same edge as you did for the source but on the targets.
The two operations will now be added to a pattern duplication folder. An easy option to use and saves time.
The same function can also be used for a circular pattern. Right click on drill 1, select add to new pattern.
In the pattern dialog box change pattern type to circular select the circular face of the big diameter circle for the axis. Change number of instances to 6. The operation will now be added to a pattern duplication folder. An easy option to use and saves time.
Patterns can also be applied on mill turn operations by using the same steps.
