Stopping F1 showing help

Stopping F1 showing help

Many people find it infuriating that when they try to cancel a command using the escape key on the keyboard, they accidentally hit the F1 key which brings up the AutoCAD online help! The steps below describe how to change the F1 key to behave exactly like the escape key.

1. On the command line type cui and press enter to bring up the customise user interface dialogue box.

2. In the top left window expand keyboard shortcuts and then expand shortcut keys.

3. In the bottom left window type cancel into the command list search facility.

4. Left click and hold the mouse on the cancel option from the bottom left window and drag it into the shortcut keys list in the top left window. Release the mouse button to place the cancel command in the shortcut keys list.

5. Make sure that cancel is selected in the shortcut keys list then click into the keys section (under the access heading) in the properties (bottom right) window.

6. Click the ellipse [...] button on the right hand side off the keys section and press F1 to assign the cancel command to F1. Click ok.

7. Click apply and ok in the customise user interface dialogue box.

8. Now when F1 is pressed the AutoCAD help will no longer display! The help is still available however from the drop down menu at the question mark icon in the top right corner of the AutoCAD interface!!
