Some of you are probably wondering what the 3D Connexion SpacePilot Pro 3D Mouse is and although it sounds like some complicated bit of equipment, in reality it is actually really easy to use and is recognizable for allowing fluidity in your work.
It is a mouse with Six Degrees of Freedom, LCD Workflow Assistant and deep MCAD integration.
At first glance what you will probably notice is the crystal clear LCD screen at the top and I hear you saying, what sort of mouse needs a screen? But the answer to this is an intuitive and clever one.
Specifically made for design professionals using creative software such as Autodesk and Adobe the SpacePilot Pro allows the user to looks at emails, the calendar, outlook tasks and RSS feeds all via the small screen. This means your all-important design work won't be interrupted by having to navigate to different screens because you can instead just glance down at your mouse.
The SpacePilot pro features a number of buttons including: ctrl, shift, alt and escape and it is a nifty way of allowing you to create your designs without having to move between the mouse and the keyboard to do shortcuts; and this is done by having 31 customisable hot keys.
These hot keys allow you to programme in the shortcuts you want and need for specific designs and then change them at any time. When you hold down a button for 5 or so seconds a screen will pop up on your monitor and there you can give it a secondary function.
The navigation cap is the mechanism in the very middle of the mouse and this has six degrees of freedom sensor technology. When doing a design on an Autodesk programme (it supports over 100 software applications) instead of using the mouse to navigate around your model, which is a lot more difficult you can use the navigation cap instead.
It allows you to move left and right, forward and back, 360 degrees rotation around your object, rolling and up and down.
Graitec Professional Services Visualisation Specialist, David Jones said "the device is more natural to use than others and the fluidity of it makes it easier for navigation purposes."
This is a must have device and by purchasing it you will be able to view your model from any angle using your left hand but with your right hand you will simultaneously be able to manipulate vertices. On top of all the attractive qualities this bit of technology has the ergonomic design means you won't get RSI or Carpel tunnel pain.
If you're someone who works in 3D, especially Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit or 3DS Max then I definitely recommend the 3DConnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D Mouse for you and what's even better is that Adris sells this at a competitive price.
