If you use the standard ductwork or pipe in Revit it will draw the lengths of ductwork and pipe as one continues run. The fabrication parts were added in Revit 2016 so the users can create a more accurate model, but if you don't use the fabrication parts it can be difficult and a slow process to split ductwork and pipework.
The Split Pipes tool helps users divide square or round ducts and pipes into smaller segments.
All you need to do is just select the pipes and ducts you want to divide and run the command.
The following dialog will pop-up so you can set the distance you wish for the ductwork or pipework you wish to split.
Once the command has been run you should be prompted with how many ducts/pipes there were before and how many after.
