The new update for Autodesk Fusion has probably been one of the best yet. But before I go into the awesome new features, some of you are probably wondering what Autodesk Fusion 360 is, because maybe it isn't one of the programmes you use.
Available on a very affordable desktop subscription (rental) basis, Autodesk Fusion 360 is a software programme that is based in the cloud and it is made for manufacturers that need a 3D CAD/CAM tool for collaborative product development. It is a software programme that enables you to explore your product ideas using the simple and easy to use tools.
There were numerous functionality changes and updates but one that we have been waiting for the longest is the ability to create 2D drawings from 3D models. But wait no longer because this highly requested feature is finally here.
You make the drawings using the dashboard or the design environment and once made, the designs automatically update as you go along. As designers our work changes all the time so when you make an alteration to your 3D model this gets altered in the drawn designs too. On top of this there are annotation features, standard dimensioning and you can even select different views and move them with the parent view.
This is all extremely easy to do it's just a simple case of dragging over your 3D design and then clicking a few buttons and voila you have got a drawn design. Autodesk have definitely made this as easy as they can to do so even people who are new to the software can manage.
A high merit feature is that you can have 360 degree views of your design and have numerous versions if need be. If for example you wanted to only do part of the design, then you just select that section and follow the same process. No matter what drawn element you need, size or rotary you can do it in a small amount of time and the results will always be top notch.
Unfortunately at this moment in time the drawn function is only available for windows users, but Autodesk intend to have it up and ready for Mac OS users in August. They are also working on the drawing toolset and are reassuring us that we won't have to wait long.
