Autodesk Remote is a new application which allows you to drive Autodesk software installed on your primary computer.
Via the app you can access the full range of programs and files available on your desktop from a remote computer or your iPad.
You may have heard of similar software in the past, such as GoToMyPC, though the majority didn’t have the functionality to handle graphically intensive CAD applications – the correct infrastructure had to be in place or the programme specifications didn’t match.
Now with Autodesk Remote you can utilise the software you need, from wherever you are in the world, with a minimal amount of effort or pre-configured infrastructure.
When it comes to using the iPad application, optimised for Autodesk Inventor, it’s unexpectedly quick with no noticeable lagging or damage to the linear scales.
It does come with a slight hiccup mind, mainly as the application is only supported for customers living in North America at present, but that could easily change going forward so worth looking out for.
The application however, isn’t blocked for UK users so it’s certainly worth giving it a go (ogle) – Autodesk have mentioned some false failures on the forums so stick with it.
Having the ability to work with CAD programmes anywhere other than your workstation may have been a chore in the past, but that’s just the point.
Autodesk Remote is yet another leap towards a truly flexible design environment; making a collaborative and mobile way of working achievable and realistic.
