If you link in a 3D AutoCAD drawing into Revit you cannot do very much with it apart from just place it into your model. It doesn't have any parameters value either.
Using the 3D CAD Visibility tool your able to convert any 3D AutoCAD drawing into a Generic Revit family (RFA).
Once the 3D drawing has been converted into a Revit family it has the standard family parameters, which can be updated. You can edit the family, change the family category and add further parameters to the family.
If the original 3D drawing is changed, the family from the Revit project can be updated using the option RFA Update.
