Rooms and Spaces are very similar items in Revit. Adding them to your project can give you some useful information and allow some flexibility in the design, albeit quite different. However, there's always the risk of accidentally deleting them if you haven't pinned these elements, which can be so frustrating!
Incidentally, if you do happen to delete a room or a space you will get the below warning. Undo would be a good step unless you actually want to get rid of it!
Deleting the room or space from the view does not however remove it totally from the project. This means you cannot simply add a new one and re-number it, as there will be a warning. You can see below in the room schedule that the missing room appears as ‘Not Placed’ in the area and level fields.
To add a ‘Not Placed’ room or space, click on the required tool as normal but prior to placing it go to the ‘Options bar’ and click on the ‘Room’ or ‘Space’ pulldown (item dependant) which will be set to ‘New’, select the one you require and place it.
Another scenario is you have created the schedule prior to adding any rooms or spaces, whereby you have added and numbered up rows in the schedule to format the numbering.
You will then retrospectively place the rooms or spaces using the pre-determined numbers.
