Are you not using BIM yet? Why not? Even the UK Government sees it's potential.
I know that we've discussed BIM to a great deal on this blog, but its usage is accelerating powerfully, driven by major private and government owners who want to institutionalize its benefits of faster, more certain project delivery, and more reliable quality and cost1 - so we would be daft not to!
The UK Government is embarking with industry on a four year programme (Government Construction Strategy) for sector modernisation with the key objective of helping reduce capital cost and the massive carbon burden from the construction and operation of the building industry by 20%.
This construction strategy states that BIM will be a key part of the government's procurement of public buildings. By 2016, collaborative 3D BIM will be mandatory on all public sector projects, including delivery of all project and asset information documentation and data.
To support and help deliver this objective the BIM Task Group was set up in 2011 by sharing its benefits within various industries and spread awareness.
I know some of you won't be affected by these changes but even so you should think about BIM as lowering your carbon burden. By being able to design your project in 3D using Autodesk software before you even lay the first brick allows you to scale down waste materials and machinery time spent on the project reducing carbon emissions.
Autodesk BIM solutions are based on the Autodesk Industry Collections.
This broad portfolio of BIM software for building and infrastructure projects include desktop and cloud-based applications for design, visualization, simulation and collaboration that will benefit you in any project that you become involved with.
With many businesses already some way along the BIM adoption route both in private and governmental projects, it's becoming even more important for later adopters to move forward to keep pace with industry peers and of course to maintain and increase project profitability.
