Advance Steel User Days

Advance Steel User Day Banner

The way we work now and in the future is changing. With more use of automation to manufacturing Steelwork and more automation in the design and detailing of steelwork.

The focus of these events will be to investigate the New Features of the Autodesk products for 2020 along with updates to the collaboration workflows between the products.

The day will run with several core sessions and a break out session for industry trends and practices. These sessions will cover topics of Stairs and Railing detailing, drawing style customisation, integration between Revit and Advance Steel, the updated connections and the use of Dynamo scripts within Revit for steel creation and connections.

We will have a dedicated session of Structural analysis and design, using various design options and integrations for member Analysis and Steel connection design.

So why not come along and be involved.

Our breakout sessions will cover the following topics:

The Secret of Stairs
The session will focus upon the stair tools available within core Advance Steel, look at methods of application and combine with some of the additional tools of Core Advance steel. Also, we will introduce powerpack tools such as gratings and platform cover and introduce the BIM Designer Stairs and Railings module, for plate stringer stairs and multi flight arrangements.

Database Management
In this session, learn about the advantages and the different approaches that can be used to share the Advance Steel databases through a network. In addition, discover how to manage fasteners, bolts, anchors and shear studs. We will also demonstrate how to add additional sections to the structural element macros, how to edit weld symbols and much more!

- How to add new bolts, anchors and shear studs
- Add sections to macro’s with GUI allowed sections
- Editing the weld template
- Understanding the Database structure in Program data
- Editing the configuration XML and ASSettings_User.xml
- Batch file implementation

The Secrets of Railings
The session focus is upon the use and customisation of the railing macro from within Core Advance Steel, review some of the options for use and application of this tool, we will also introduce the BIM Designer from Graitec for Railings, show some of the additional features available with that module to compliment the core Advance Steel tools. Looking at panel infills, Special parts and the Special part manager, combining this with the Stair tools and platform tools.

Drawing Styles Customisation
Discover the flexibility of the Drawing Style Manager in Autodesk Advance Steel and how templates can be customized to fit the standards of any fabrication shop. This session will also give an overview of the “do’s and don’ts” and best practices of customizing your Drawing Styles & Drawing Processes! - Understanding the Drawing Style Manager

- Creating new Categories for the Drawing Styles Palette
- Mapping images to the Categories
- Creating new model roles to link to model objects
- Using Colours from the model for overview drawings
- Modifying the object Presentations and Label Strategies

Integration between Revit and AS
In this session the focus will be on the recent changes in the collaboration SMLX file used between the platforms. We will look at how the data is transferred and stored, along with some tips over Family and AS profile creations. Combine this with some of the changes made in the joint propagation and instance creation approach with Revit, how this equates within the AS platform. Also, an insight into the new developments within Dynamo for Revit structural steel connections, how this links back to the instance control of the connections.

Model management & drawing /file output
This session will look at how to manage your Advance Steel model from blank template files right through to the drawing and file output. We will start with how your template can be set up to give the best graphics performance and other tips and tricks. Then we will look at the tools in the system to aid you while modelling including Model views, Levels, Searches, Lotting and Phasing and the Model Browser. For managing much larger models we first look at the Work area tool then look at the Multi user options available in Advance Steel Finally we will look at some of the output and what can be customised in the drawing templates including drawing status and BIM Level 2 drawing numbers.
